2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe 0-60- I cant think of brand that gets pigeonholed into various stereotypes more than Cadillac Mobsters and the elderly cruise in the sedans while rappers and athletes claimed the Escalade and because Im none of these things Cadillac has gone overlooked by me a majority of my life However the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe is on track to completely flip my perspective.
For starters simply put its a great looking car. Its a coupe so it has that sort of bubbly cockpit weve come to expect from them but it doesnt forget that it has evolved from a long line of well long Cadillacs You know those Caddys of our grandfathers that appeared to be half a city block long. Well the ATS isnt nearly that long but the line from the front wheel back and the solid silver line above the windows invoke length reminiscent of the cars older relatives.
Extravagance that has ended up synonymous with Cadillac through the years is evident on the inside wear wood is real wood leather real leather and carbon fiber you guessed it real carbon fiber In fact the combination of materials in the interior is as near perfect as possible and certainly allows for the ATS Coupe to hold its own against the seasoned vets in this category Mercedes BMW and Audi The only place where the ATS Coupe falters on the inside is in the ease of use of the entertainment console Granted this is something you inevitably get used to but off the bat working the touch screen to control the navigation and radio was nowhere near as easy as some of the cars competitors Additionally the touch system used for the climate control takes some getting used to verse traditional buttons and I found myself often hitting things I didnt mean to.
Available in two engines a 2.0L turbo and a 3.6L V6 I was fortunate to drive both the 2litre in the AWD and the 3,6 litre in the rear wheel drive While I found the driving experience to be quite similar I did prefer the 3,6 for its acceleration on the highway The 20 lb ft more of torque gave the 2 nice acceleration but the 49 less horsepower made it a bit sluggish hitting the gas at speed Considering I do more accelerating to pass on the road than I do gunning it from a dead stop this is something of importance to me Handling and braking between the two were nearly identical and spectacular in part due to the standard Brembo brakes but also because Cadillac just has it dialed in.
As I still struggle to see Cadillac as a young persons car the way that I do others in the same class as the ATS Coupe the engineers have done their job in creating a coupe to compete in this segment. Its now in the hands of the marketing department to see if they can sway public perception in their favor and away from past stereotypes.

The coupe shares most of its systems with the ATS sedan but nearly every exterior panel is unique to the slick twodoor. The coupes wider track lower center of gravity and revised steering all contribute to handling that seems to anticipate the drivers desires. Upgrades to the ZF electric power steering help with a broader range of assist at different speeds.
Prices start at $37995 for a reardrive ATS coupe with a 272hp 2.0L engine. Allwheeldrive raises the starting price to $40445. A 321hp 3.6L V6 is available for $45145 in RWD and $47750 with AWD. All ATS coupes have a sixspeed automatic transmission.
I tested a topoftheline V6 reardrive ATS coupe with the Performance trim package. It stickered at $50190. All prices exclude destination charges.

My test car had leather seats Bose audio navigation Bluetooth audio and phone compatibility Safety features included parking assist backup camera hill start assist and unusually assertive lanedeparture prevention. I was disappointed it lacked blindspot alert which would ease the stress of changing lanes in the lowslung coupe.
The ATS coupe competes with cars like the Audi S5 BMW 435i Infiniti Q60 Lexus RC 350 and MercedesBenz E400. The ATS price features and accommodations compare favorably to those cars.
The 3.6L V6 delivers satisfying acceleration around town and on the highway. The ATS 5.5 second 060 m.p.h. time trails the Audi and BMW It beats the new Lexus RC Infiniti and Mercedes dont report 060 times for the Q60 and E400.
The ATS compensates by running fine on regular fuel for significant savings versus most of its premiumburning competitors. The EPA rated the 3.6L reardrive ATS at 18 m.p.g. in the city 28 on the highway and 22 in combined driving The combined figure beats the S5 the only allwheeldrive car in the set The ATS combined rating trails the Q60 and RC 350 but EPA predicts its annual fuel bill will be lower. The BMWs 25 m.p.g. combined rating is high enough that owners should save money in spite of using premium fuel. The EPA hasnt rated the E400s fuel consumption yet.
